Mary MacKillop Street Festival- Where It All BeganPenola, Sunday 17 October 2010The festival is themed Where it all began and will celebrate the formative years Mary MacKillop spent in Penola, arriving in 1860 aged 18 as a governess at Penola Station, and her subsequent inspiration to establish the first St Joseph’s school for poor and isolated children in a six-stalled wooden stable 1866. It will culminate in the canonisation of Australia’s first Saint. Event Schedule 10.00am-9.00pm Street festival 2.00pm-2.30pm Procession from Mary MacKillop Pk to outdoor stage 3.00pm-4.30pm Penola’s Mass service on stage 4.30pm-6.30pm Dinner break and entertainment 6.30pm–9.00pm Live TV broadcast of canonisation from Rome
SEFHG Open for Group Visits or Request a SpeakerIf you are a member of another organisation or social group that may be looking for somewhere different for an outing why not suggest a visit to our resource centre? This regional centre, is available at all times, other than our regular opening afternoons of Wednesdays and Saturdays. We will supply a ‘cuppa’ and biscuits. BYO Lunch if planning a longer visit. Wheelchair access to the library is available, (but not to the computer room). Alternatively you might like to have one of our members speak at your group meeting regarding our facilities and resources, history or genealogy or perhaps run a short course for your members on researching their family history.
