For those people who have an iPhone, iPodTouch, iPad or other mobile device that uses apps, this section will let you know about those that might be of interest. 
These have been found on the  iTunes store http://www.apple.com/au/itunes/ but if you have another device, then use Google to find the relevant version to suit you. 
Some of these apps have associated web pages where those without suitable mobile devices can still access information.

Ancestor This app takes you to the Find My Ancestor where you can access their genealogy blog and keep up to date with the latest in research, as well as download the related You Tube videos.
Ancestors (Family History Search)  Not only is this entertaining book a chance for you to figure out how to start your search and complete it, but it also
teaches you which public records to look for and what information you can glean from them.
Geneaology and History Research Assistant One of the Wolfram Personal Assistant range this app takes historical, geographical and statistical data and computes it to give you answers to questions you might have regarding genealogy or history.
How To Write Your Family History  Compiled by writing and university experts. A fun writing course for amateur genealogists who want to turn information about their ancestors’ lives into a compelling story. 
Who Do You Think You Are? Forum  Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine is Britain's best-selling family history title and its forum is a vibrant meeting
place for family historians to discuss anything from episodes of Who Do You Think You Are? to the latest record
releases. It's also the perfect solution for finding answers to family history problems from photo identification to elusive
ancestors.
Writing Family History (Audio) Open University  This album contains extracts from interviews with a wide range of people talking about family history. Some history is recalled in oral form, some in photographic and some in written form as biographical or autobiographical evidence.
AIDS  
Billion Graves This specialised iPhone camera app helps contributors easily capture photos of the headstones in any cemetery. Then upload them to the BillionGraves.com database. The app constantly updates the photo location as you move from grave to grave. Once online others can help transcribe the information from each headstone, making it easy to search.
Bit Torrent Sync A personal file syncing application, BitTorrent Sync lets you sync an unlimited number of files and folders of any size
across all of your trusted devices- computers, iPhones, iPads etc. It gives you access to all of your synced folders
when you’re on the go, and introduces a new mobile-to-mobile sharing feature for easily sending your photos and

Evernote  Evernote is an easy-to-use, free app that helps you remember everything across all of the devices you use. Stay
organized, save your ideas and improve productivity. Evernote lets you take notes, capture photos, create to-do lists,
record voice reminders--and makes these notes completely searchable, whether you are at home, at work, or on the
go. Excellent way to capture and keep track of genealogy research.
Family Search Indexing  Do you want to help preserve and share the world’s precious genealogical records in your spare time? FamilySearch indexing is a free app from FamilySearch International that will let you do just that. This app displays image snippets from handwritten historical documents such as birth, marriage, and death certificates; census forms; and naturalization records. Each snippet contains a name, date, place-name, or other relevant information from these documents. You simply transcribe (index) what you see in the image, and the FamilySearch indexing system eventually adds it to the collection of free genealogy records available at FamilySearch  
Family Timeline  Family timeline is a research tool for genealogists and family researchers. Record events in your family history and
the source of the information. They are displayed chronologically to enable you to more easily understand your history
and identify errors in source documents.
FlipBoard  Flipboard is an app that creates a personalized magazine out of everything being shared with you.
Fill Flipboard with the things you like to read, from family history blogs and publications and save articles to read later. Flip through your Facebook newsfeed, tweets from your Twitter timeline, photos from Instagram friends and much more. Flipboard creates a single place to enjoy, browse, comment on and share all the news, photos and updates that matter to you.
Google Drive  Google Drive is one safe place for all your stuff. Upload photos, videos, documents, and other files that are important
to you, then access what you need wherever you go, on any device. Get going with up to 15GB of storage. Free.
Google Earth  Explore the same global satellite and aerial imagery available in the desktop version of Google Earth, including highresolution
imagery for over half of the world's population and a third of the world's land mass. With Google Earth, you
can navigate the world with a swipe of your finger; swipe with two fingers to adjust your view to see mountainous

History Pin This app reveals photos taken near your current location and allows you to see them layered over the modern scene in front of you. View some of the best old photo collections from around the world. You can add your own piece of history and pin it to the map too.
Historical English Calendar  Historical English Calendar is a streamlined offline date-calculator for those interested in English history, literature, and genealogy. It converts between Old and New Style dates (Gregorian and Julian), calculates the day of the week, identifies the dates of moveable holidays (Easter, etc.), and calculates regnal years through Queen Victoria. Date calculations are also accurate for European history outside of Great Britain, before 1582 and after 1752.

Pinterest  Pinterest is a tool to find your inspiration and share it with others. Use it to collect things you love, organize and plan

device you can still follow Pinterest on your computer
Print  "Print" enables you to quickly and easily print out photos, contacts, & phone numbers - or print out web pages to read later. "Print" will enable you to print directly
Puffin Web Browser  Are you tired of not being able to view Adobe Flash videos on your mobile device, then download Puffin to browse the web and you will be able to view these easily. You may even switch to this as your regular browser as it downloads content faster than most other browsers used on mobile devices.
QR Code Reader and Scanner  Quick Response Code reader which will scan QR Codes using your device

Resting Spot  This free app allows you to mark and share the exact GPS location of your loved one’s final RestingSpot. Once

FamViewer  FamViewer can be used with any Windows, Macintosh, or Linux genealogy program that will create GEDCOM files.  It also allows you to upload and view GEDCOM genealogy database files on your iPhone. 
GedView A family tree viewer that is not connected with a specific program but able to accept an imported gedcom. A viewer and recording tool for your genealogy database when you are out and about researching local records or visiting locations.
Legacy Mobile NEW This brings together some of the newest technology in family history. Create your own family tree and synchronise
your family data with FamilySearch- one of the world’s largest free genealogy databases. Add pictures to anyone in
your tree and by using the LegacyTec tool take a picture of a headstone and along with your location this tool will find
out who it is and show you any known information about that person. If not in their database you then have the

Mobile Family Tree Pro  The first fully operational family tree app that does not need to be linked to a computer.  You can begin your tree from scratch on your device, add people, media and information plus create charts and reports. It will sync seamlessly with MacFamilyTree bt you can still exchange data with every other type of genealogy software through gedcom files if you wish.
My Heritage  Brought to you by MyHeritage.com this app allows you to sync with your family site stored on their website, create personal profile pages to share, have your family tree with you to refer to on the go, easily share photos with family and friends and play the fun celebrity look-alike feature.
My People's Tree NEW Now this is one for the future and by using a 3D printer would create an amazing family tree for display. This
application allows anyone to create a 3D image of a people tree and 3D print it! You can purchase a tree you have
created through the app. It is not cheap but for a very special gift it could be quite amazing.
Reunion This app is designed as a companion product to Reunion for Mac which you would have installed on your computer. Browse, view, navigate, search and edit your tree while you are on the go.
RootsMagic  This viewer is designed as a companion product to RootsMagic, the award-winning desktop genealogy software
which makes researching, organizing, and sharing your family history easy. Whether you're a beginner or an
experienced professional, RootsMagic may be the perfect tool for you!
Shrubs  Shrubs reads a GEDCOM file that you create with any modern desktop genealogy program on a Windows, Macintosh, or Linux system.  The program works in either French or English.
RESEARCH  
Ann Frank  In the summer of 1942, fleeing the horrors of the Nazi occupation, Anne Frank and her Jewish family were forced into

certificate through the Registry’s official Family History App.
History Books  This application is a collection history books which is the discovery, collection, organisation, and presentation of
information about past events in human society.
History Calendar for the iPad  History Calendar presents you with every historically significant event on this or any other day. Want to know which famous person was born or passed away on this day?. Did an important battle or appalling catastrophe take place on this date? 
History: Maps of the World  A fun and educational collection of high resolution historical maps from around the world.
Indicommons  The Commons was launched in 2008, by Flickr with the release of nearly 3,000 photographs from two popular Library
of Congress collections. The stated aims of the Commons project are to increase the public’s access to publicly held
photography collections in civic institutions around the world and to provide a way for the public to contribute historical
data pertaining to the collections. Since then, dozens of museums, public libraries, and other cultural heritage
institutions from around the world have joined The Commons, releasing over 50,000 images to be perused, tagged,
and researched by the public. There are quite a number of Australian collections amongst these.
iFindmypast From Find My Past UK this app allows you to search UK Census, births, deaths and marriages. Use your account, or purchase by credits, the images that you find. You can save these images as a photo to your device or email them to yourself.
Irish Heraldry  One of the best resources for Irish family coat-of-arms or family crests. On this app you get to view over 1400 Irish
Family Coat of Arms; share your crest by email or post to your Facebook page; an easy to navigate alphabetical

Paper of Record  This app will give you free access to the first page of over 21 million historic digitized newspapers from around the world. If you find it is something you might use a lot you can subscribe and pay a monthly fee to access records whenever you want.
Peerage  Nobility, Bloodlines, Kings and Queens... The Peerage App contains the largest collection of British Peerage &
European Royalty lineage information in the world. Using this app, you can see if any of your ancestors are listed
among the aristocracy; see how many descendants Queen Victoria has alive today; figure out how Princess Diana is
related to Madonna's ex-husband and get the names of the aristocracy who lived in Little Snoring, or indeed Lyttelton,
New Zealand!
Research Logger Keep track of the research you have done so you are not going over old ground. This app features separate log entries for each ancestor with the ability to add pictures and audio to your findings. 
State Library of SA Walking Tours  Self-guided walking tours highlight aspects of the city of Adelaide, allowing you to travel through time at your own

Inside History  The iPad version of this Australian history magazine includes the same features as the printed edition, but is supplemented by more images and audio content on particular stories.
Internet Genealogy  Internet Genealogy is your guide to successful genealogical research using the ever-increasing power of the World
